Co-Chairs.
Modern Foundry Technologies Institute
(MFTI)
The Metal Casting Technician course and the Materials Technology
– Metal Casting programs have been integrated into the Mechanical
Engineering Technology which is now available with a metals option.
The new program alignment was introduced in the fall of 2009. We will
see the first graduates in 2012 and an indication of the interest in the
Metal Casting option as students make these choices in the fall of
2011. Further detail on the students available as graduates or
co-op/interns can be obtained from Brad Bowman at Mohawk College
(905-575- 1212 x 3130).
The Foundry Educational Foundation - Canada (FEF Canada) is now
operational as a registered charity in Canada. The FEF allows
Canadians to make charitable donations in support of the education needs
of future Canadian foundry men and women.
Program of Study
The following courses are offered in the day school programs for the
Mechanical or Industrial Streams. The courses have significant content
relating to the metalcasting industry or are completely dedicated to
metalcasting. Mandatory courses are indicated by an M and elective
courses by an E.
Note that the technology programs have six academic semesters:
Semester 1 MC 338
Manufacturing Processes (M)

6 MTB73
Melting and Heat Treating of Castings (E)
Distance Learning Courses
The MFTI distance education courses continue to be popular with a total
of five courses being offered twice per academic year. Since the first
course was offered in September 2002, over 400 individual courses have
been delivered to students. The majority of students are metalcasting
professionals in North America. However there have been students from
as far away as Hong Kong and Australia. |
